In 2015, EverdreamSoft issued its first cryptocurrency, BitCrystals (BCY), on Counterparty.
To safeguard their BCY holders and prevent misuse of the name, EDS minted one of their earliest tokens, BITCRYSTAL (without the "S" at the end), preventing others from minting a similarly named token that might be mistaken for the official BITCRYSTALS. Notably, BITCRYSTAL was minted even before any Spells of Genesis (SoG) cards came into existence.
The illustration on the cover, designed by Rachel Moss, the sister of Christian Moss (MandelDuck), the creator of Sarutobi, depicts the original concept sketch of the Book of Orbs logo, EverdreamSoft’s groundbreaking digital wallet and marketplace launched in 2016.
BitCrystals (BCY) served as the currency within the Book of Orbs, allowing users to purchase cards and blockchain-based assets. Book of Orbs was a visionary concept that combined the functionality of a digital wallet with a marketplace for blockchain-based assets, setting a precedent for many platforms that followed. Although the platform was discontinued in 2021, the innovation and vision behind Book of Orbs remain essential milestones in the history of blockchain gaming.
This transformation of BITCRYSTAL from a protective measure to a storytelling NFT exemplifies EverdreamSoft’s ability to innovate and find new value in existing assets. It reflects the company’s journey, showing how initial ideas and precautions can evolve into something much more significant and valuable over time.
Today, BITCRYSTAL symbolizes EverdreamSoft’s ongoing legacy and its enduring influence on the blockchain world.
Book of Orbs was a mobile and web app that served as a gaming wallet and marketplace for digital collectibles.
Released in 2016, it allowed users to display, trade, and exchange blockchain-based assets, pioneering the secondary market for digital gaming items.
The platform was a visionary step in tokenized asset management, and while it was discontinued in May 2021, it remains a landmark project in the history of blockchain gaming.
The name "ORB" stands for "Ownership Recorded on Blockchain," highlighting the core principle of digital ownership that powered the platform.
BitCrystals (BCY), issued in 2015 on the Counterparty protocol, was initially launched as part of one of the first successful ICOs.
Out of an initial supply of 100 million BCY tokens, 30% were retained by EverdreamSoft, and 70% were offered for sale during the ICO, with all unsold tokens burned after the ICO. Following the ICO, EverdreamSoft progressively burned its reserved tokens each month until February 2023. Since March 2023, the remaining BCY tokens have been allocated for future community rewards.
BitCrystals were originally used to purchase cards within the Book of Orbs marketplace, embedding them deeply in EverdreamSoft’s early blockchain gaming ecosystem.
